Screen Cleaner Screen Saver

January 25, 2008

This is the first version on the Screen Cleaner Screen Saver. Cheers Sarah for the idea. It contains a pug(little dog) licking your computer screen clean. He doesn’t do the best job but he’ll get there.cleanss.jpg

I hope you all enjoy. There is no spyware/adware in this screen saver. This is version 2 which contains sound. If you don’t like the sound you can mute it under the screen saver settings. I recommend keeping your monitor power down settings at the default 20 minutes of inactivity so the pug can go to sleep after 20 minutes of cleaning your screen :)

Click here to download - Screen Clean Screen Saver

If you have any trouble viewing the screensaver update to the latest Windows Media Player here.

For those on Mac please download Save Hollywood here then download and uncompress the movie here. Install Save Hollywood and point it to the mov file. Thank you Dennis for the tip. I am not on Mac, please tell me if this works. If anyone has a Mac screen saver installer that can use .mov files please contact me.

How to Recognise Propaganda in Elections and Marketing

January 20, 2008

This educational video shows the propaganda techniques used in elections/marketing and how to evaluate them. The general techniques used are listed below:

  • Glittering Generalities
  • Transfer
  • Name Calling
  • Card Stacking
  • Testimonial
  • Plain Folks
  • Band Wagon

Understanding these techniques is the first step in identifying propaganda techniques. The second step is knowing the purpose of these techniques. Most propaganda is used to persuade people into believing something, to do something or to buy something. The 3rd step is to get the facts. The 4th step is to weigh the facts against the purpose and technique. When evaluating propaganda it is good to get as many different points of view as you can.

How to Make Seedling Pots from Newspaper

January 18, 2008

The lovely Willi Galloway from eHow shows us how to create newspaper seedling pots from old newspapers. Try to only use black and white newspaper as they don’t have the chemicals which are found in coloured newspaper. Always use a good quality compost (preferable organically certified) when potting up your seeds or seedlings for the best results.

Getting Things Done with David Allen

January 16, 2008

David Allen speaks at google explaining the concepts behind Getting Things Done(GTD).  He shows how to identify when you are off track and how to get back on.  One point that I liked was that we can only store a few reminders in our head.  We need to develop systems so we can overcome these limitation and juggle more responsibilities.  One of the most simple things we can do is to put reminders in places where  they will be noticed when required.  If you can do this properly you can let go of the task completely as you know the reminder will be in the right place when required.  This is a big stress release as we can let go thinking about the task but we can also let go thinking about the reminder.
